London - British Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr Gordon Brown last night rejected demands for a quick cut in fuel duties saying the Government will not give in to petrol protesters.

As the first meeting of the government's new fuel task force failed to reach agreement with oil companies on legislation requiring them to maintain fuel supplies and a new poll showed Labour's support on the slide, Mr Brown remained defiant and, in an interview with the London Times, rejected demands by protesters for action within 60 days.
