Former Scotland coach Craig Brown was today named the new manager of First Division Preston North End.

The club's website has confirmed Brown will be unveiled as David Moyes's successor at a 4 p.m. press conference this afternoon.

It is the 61-year-old's first appointment since he resigned as coach of the Scotland national team last October after their failure to qualify for the World Cup finals.

Kelham O'Hanlon had been in temporary charge of the first team since Moyes left Deepdale last month to take over at Everton.

Elsewhere, Peter Taylor has quit as manager of Brighton despite leading the club into the First Division.

Taylor, who did not sign a contract with the Seagulls after taking over from Micky Adams last October, joined the club after being sacked by Premiership strugglers Leicester.

Brighton lost only six of the 40 games played under Taylor en route to the Second Division championship.
