The journalist and broadcaster Vincent Browne has quit the late-night RTÉ television programme The Midnight Court, after disagreements with members of the production staff.

Mr Browne said yesterday there had been disagreements about the programme's content and direction, but he denied reports he had been made apologise to some members of staff.

The former editor of the Sunday Business Post, Damien Kiberd, is to replace Mr Browne on the programme, which returns on February 2nd.

Mr Kiberd is currently presenting a lunchtime news programme with News Talk 106.

Mr Browne said he asked to be relieved from the programme. He said he would continue presenting his late-night radio show, Tonight with Vincent Browne, and was working on other TV projects with RTÉ.

Last year it was reported that staff from Tyrone Productions, which produces The Midnight Court, threatened to stop work in support of colleagues who had clashed with Mr Browne. Some said he treated them unfairly, although he has denied this.
