PREPARATIONS for the reconvening of the multi-party Stormont talks after the British general election on June 3rd were discussed by the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, and the British Prime Minister, Mr Major, yesterday.

The two leaders conducted a wide ranging review of the current situation in a 25 minute telephone conversation at 4.30 p.m. A Government spokesman later described the tone of the call as "constructive".

The Anglo Irish liaison group of officials will meet next week to further the leaders agenda.

In advance of the Taoiseach's departure for Washington on Sunday, the Prime Minister outlined the changes in the prison regime for Ms Roisin McAliskey. Mr Bruton told Mr Major that the changes represented an improvement in her conditions.
