THE Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, has confirmed that he intends to call on the British government to investigate recent allegations relating to the Widgery Tribunal on the Bloody Sunday killings in Derry.

It is understood that the Government wants the British government to redress the findings of Widgery and meet the concerns of the victims' families by stating clearly that those who were shot were entirely innocent.

It sees as inadequate a letter from the Prime Minister, Mr Major, to the SDLP leader, Mr John Hume, in 1992 that those killed by the Parachute Regiment 20 years previously should be regarded as innocent of handling firearms or explosives.

Mr Bruton was asked by the Fianna Fail TD, Mr David Andrews, yesterday if he intended to call on the British government to take action in the wake of the latest allegations surrounding the tribunal.
