TWO more cases of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) have been confirmed by Department of Agriculture scientists, it was announced yesterday. The 134th case was found in a four year old dairy cow in Co Westmeath. The 150 animals on the farm will be slaughtered and destroyed. As the cow was born on the farm, however, no additional herds will be destroyed.
The second ease was discovered in a four year old cow in a large dairy herd of 354 cattle in Co Wexford. Department officials are examining records to find the source of the cow and this may lead to another herd being slaughtered in line with Government policy.
