BSkyB's customer base in Ireland grew by 19,000 in the first quarter of this year to a total of 484,000, the company said today.
The increase means that Sky digital has grown by 19 per cent - or by 77,000 customers - in the last 12 months.
Across Britain and Ireland, the total number of direct-to-home (DTH) digital satellite subscribers increased by 51,000 in the quarter to reach 8.492 million.
The number of households subscribing to the Sky+ service grew by 199,000 to 2.167 million. BSkyB said this meant Sky has passed its target of 25 per cent Sky+ penetration three years earlier than planned.
Customers to Sky HD reached 244,000 after just 10 months, making it Sky's fastest selling additional TV product.
Revenue increased by 10 per cent to £3,376 million (€4,964 million) while operating profit was £613 million (€901 million).
Sky Ireland managing director Delia Bushell said the company will also launch a Cork-based customer service operation in partnership with Abtran this summer. The centre will create 100 jobs, she said.
