Liam Buckley was this afternoon unveiled as the new manager of Shamrock Rovers. Buckley leaves Athlone Town, who he guided to seventh in Division One in the recently-finished season.
A former Shamrock Rovers midfielder, Buckley will replace former incumbant, Damian Richardson, as the Hoops boss.
Though the position is not a full-time one, Buckley beat off competition from several high-profile candidates, including former Shelbourne boss Dermot Keely. Rovers have high hopes for the new season, which they will begin in their new home in Tallaght.
Rovers parted company with Richardson earlier this month after declining his request to take on the role full time.
The 54-year-old has since decided to quit football completely after 35 years in the game.
