Three records for Irish art at auction were made on Budget Day, writes Robert O'Byrne.
In the James Adam salerooms the highest price paid was for an oil by Walter Osborne called In the Garden, Castlewood Avenue, which fetched £748,000. The successful bidder is believed to be an Irish collector.
Also making a higher sum than anticipated was an oil by Roderic O'Conor. La Toilette carried a pre-sale estimate of £180,000-220,000 but was acquired by an Irish buyer for £634,000.
