A suspected security force bug has been discovered at a house used by a former IRA man in Northern Ireland, it was claimed tonight.

Sean O’Farrell was shot dead by undercover SAS soldiers in February 1992 in Co Tyrone.

Sinn Fein said the suspected listening device was discovered in the roof space of a house in Coalisland during renovation work.

“There was a bug found. The house would have been used by Sean,” a spokesman said. It is suspected the device could have been there since the 1990s.

O’Farrell was one of four men shot in the car park of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dernagh, near Coalisland, shortly after he was involved in a gun attack on the Coalisland British Army/RUC base.

A police spokesman said: “We do not comment on specific operational matters but if anyone has any information or property it should be made available to police for immediate investigation.”
