A builder working on an allegedly illegal attic conversion obstructed two inspectors when they tried to investigate what he was doing, Dublin District Court was told yesterday.
Gerard Rochford, Grattan Lodge, Balgriffin, Dublin, denied obstructing the two Dublin Corporation inspectors who called to a house he was working on in Clontarf last April. He was convicted and fined £200.
A routine inspection was being carried out on April 11th to ascertain whether work under way was in compliance with the building regulations. The inspector was refused entry. On the following day two inspectors called and showed their identification cards and told Mr Rochford they had a right to inspect the house. But he blocked their way, pushed one of them out the door and became abusive.
