Gardaí have appealed for help in identifying a man who was seen running from a house in Clondalkin, west Dublin, after a number of shots were fired on Sunday night.
At about 11.20pm, a volley of shots were fired at the house in Lindisfarne Vale, damaging the front door and several windows.
Two cars parked outside were also damaged in the incident. Two people were in the house at the time but were not injured.
A man, dressed in black, was seen running from the house in the direction of Lindisfarne Walk.
He was about 1.73m (5ft 8in) and weighed about 73kg (11.5 stone), a Garda spokeswoman said.
Yesterday a Garda forensic team examined a Mitsubishi four-wheel drive, which had its windows broken and the metal plating behind them dented. A Nissan Micra and a Ford Transit van were also examined.
Neighbours at the local-authority-built estate refused to speak to the media. One man said he did not know what had happened and did not want to know what had happened.
A younger neighbour added, "we will all be wearing vests here soon".
This was a reference to the need for personal protection from shootings.
Children were playing in the sunshine near the house yesterday.
Some houses in the area have metal and wooden shutters fixed over their front doors.
Inquiries from media were met with hostility while some residents said it might be safer for media personnel to leave. It was strongly suggested by a number of gentlemen that the house in question not be approached.
