Burley keen on Villa position

Former Ipswich boss George Burley has announced his interest in the vacant managerial post at Aston Villa.

Former Ipswich boss George Burley has announced his interest in the vacant managerial post at Aston Villa.

The Scotsman, currently interim boss at Derby County, confirmed on the official Aston Villa website that the job was too big to turn down.

"Any manager would be interested in Villa," said Burley."If you take a look at the squad, it would be a tremendous job for anybody - that's the bottom line.

Burley feels his managerial record speaks for itself and that he has what it takes to manage in the top flight again.

"I enjoyed my time at Derby and I'm still waiting to see what happens there. But look at my record, I was manager of the year two years ago, lost just one game in ten in Europe and that was Inter Milan, came fifth in the Premiership and, after three failed play-offs, got Ipswich promoted," he said.

"I'm very keen to get back in somewhere, and I'd certainly be interested in Villa. It's a huge club with great potential. They have a tremendous squad of players, with a lot of good youngsters going for them as well."

"I won't be applying as such. Clubs tend to approach people, that's the normal thing. Villa will be looking long and hard before they make their decision. It was a shock for them that Graham left."
