Dublin's Burlington hotel is to close its doors for the last time on January 2nd.

Jurys Doyle Hotel Group made the announcement today after the hotel was sold earlier this year. The hotel was sold to developer and construction magnate Bernard McNamara, who acquired the property through Soltura Ltd for €288 million in April

A total of 447 employees have been made redundant.

Established in 1972, the Burlington Hotel has been operated by Jurys Doyle since 1999.

Jurys announced it was selling the Burlington last January after the group disclosed an 18 per cent rise in operating profits to €125 million in 2006 and an 11 per cent rise in turnover to €355 million.

The heavily indebted group, controlled by the family of the late PV Doyle, planned to use the sale proceeds of the Burlington to invest €200 million in its premium hotels and make acquisitions on the US east coast and Europe.
