Olympics - Shooting: Derek Burnett, one of Ireland's main hopes for an Olympic medal, is struggling to claim a place in tomorrow's final of the men's Trap after he ended the first qualification event in 15th place.
Burnett hit 69 of the 75 targets in this afternoon's qualifiers, but with just the top six progressing to the final, even a perfect score in the remaining two rounds may not be enough for the 37-year-old from Longford.
Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic, meanwhile, claimed the first gold medal of the Games in the women's 10metre Air Rifle.
She shot a final Olympic Record total of 503.5 to take the gold, with a perfect 400 in qualifying equalling the world record mark.
Russia's Lioubov Galkina claimed the silver medal with a score of 502.1, while Snjezana Pejcic took bronze with a total of 500.9.
Home favourite and defending champion Du Li made the final but couldn't shoot her way to medal success this time.
The Chinese star, who won the first medal of the Athens Games, could only manage fifth.
