Limassol - The cruise ship Romantica was finally towed into port here yesterday still burning two days after it caught fire, forcing the evacuation of nearly 700 people aboard.

The 9,500-tonne Cypriot-registered vessel was anchored in Limassol port on the southern coast of Cyprus, the chief marine inspector, Mr Prokopis Kitromilitis, said. "The salvage people are continually trying to extinguish the fire completely," he said.

Both the Cyprus police and the Department of Merchant Shipping have started inquiries into of the fire's cause.
