Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann fares are going up tomorrow, in the latest round of public transport increases sanctioned by the Government before Christmas.

Dublin Bus adult fares are to rise by 10 cent, with the exception of the €1 fare, which is going up by five cent to €1.05. Children's fares are rising by five cent.

Bus Éireann has advised that its fares are increasing by an average of 5 per cent. The fare hike will apply on all services.

The increases follow the 6.6 per cent rise in Luas fares, which came into effect yesterday.

Dublin Bus says that from tomorrow the new rates will be: stages 1-3, €1.05; stages 4-7, €1.50; stages 8-13, €1.70; over 14 stages, €2; outer suburban 1, €2; outer suburban 2, €3.30, and outer suburban 3, €4.30.

The schoolchild fare for under 16-year-olds will be €0.60 for all stages; and for children's fares for under-16s, stages 1-7 will cost €0.75, and stage 7 and over, €0.95.

The shopper's fare and city centre fare will be €0.70.

Dublin Bus also said that the flat-fare routes for adults, children and schoolchildren on routes 201, 202, 236, 237, 238 will be €1.05, €0.75 and €0.60.

The public transport increases have been criticised by the Consumers' Association of Ireland and the Labour Party's transport spokesman, Tommy Broughan.
