Bus set alight in Antrim violence

A number of vehicles were hijacked and a bus was set alight during disturbances in Newtonabbey, Co Antrim,last night.

A number of vehicles were hijacked and a bus was set alight during disturbances in Newtonabbey, Co Antrim,last night.

Around 100 youths gathered in O’Neill Road, Newtonabbey, at around 8.30pm yesterday and threw stones at approaching police vehicles.

It is understood the violence broke out after a series of police raids in the area earlier by officers from the Historical Enquiries Team.

Motorists were warned to stay away from the area while officers dealt with the trouble. Road closures were eventually removed shortly after midnight.
