US President Mr George W Bush is to make his first official visit to Britain next month, Downing Street said today.

The exact date for the trip has yet to be settled, but it has been agreed that he will fly in at some stage on his way to the G8 summit in Genoa starting on July 20th.

"Tony Blair is delighted that President Bush has accepted an invitation to visit the UK next month on his way to the Genoa G8 summit," a spokesman said.

Mr Blair met Mr Bush for the first time when he visited Washington in February.

The two men are set to renew their acquaintance tomorrow when at the Nato summit in Brussels and then again on Thursday at the EU-US summit in Gothenburg.
