Irish business leaders are today attempting to convince the international media that commerce here has adapted and repositioned itself since the recession began.

Former Taoiseach John Bruton, now chairman of the IFSC, Microsoft Ireland managing director Paul Rellis, and Aer Lingus chief executive Christophe Mueller are among those speaking at the event, hosted by employers group Ibec.

Major media organisations from the UK, US, France and Germany are attending the conference, which is taking place at the National Convention Centre in Dublin.

Ibec director general Danny McCoy said economic recovery must be as much about growth as austerity and that the business leaders intended to discuss how this could be achieved.

"The government must demonstrate the same approach when it comes to getting the public finances back on track," Mr McCoy said.
