The Sunday Business Post newspaper has apologised at the High Court to the owners and operators of the Gaiety Theatre over an article it published two years ago.

The newspaper said it fully accepted that the theatre and its management had acted honourably and honestly.

An action by Silverthorn Investments Ltd, trading as the Gaiety Theatre, and the chief executive of the company, Mr John Costigan, alleging libel against the Sunday Business Post, was listed for hearing yesterday. However, Mr Justice ╙ Caoimh was told that the proceedings had been resolved. Mr SΘamus ╙ Tuathail SC, for the plaintiffs, read an apology from the defendants in court.

The apology stated that in the edition of the Sunday Business Post of November 21st, 1999, a story entitled "Gorta disputes Gaiety fees for charity concert" was published concerning the Gaiety Theatre.
