A busker who had €2,000 cash in his wallet when he stole €30 worth of groceries from Tesco has been told what he did was petty and cynical by a District Court judge.
Richard McDonald (38), an Australian with an address at Edward Square, Shop Street, Galway, who busks on the streets for a living, pleaded guilty to stealing the groceries from Tesco at 6pm on May 30th last. Insp Marie Skehill said that when arrested, McDonald was found to be in possession of €2,000 in cash.
Defence solicitor Adrian MacLynn agreed with Judge Mary Fahy that what his client did was mean, petty and cynical.
Judge Fahy convicted and fined McDonald €300, observing that he had been caught red-handed.
