Up TO 20 buyers of luxury homes in a Cork suburb, which remain unfinished because of the financial collapse of a building firm, are still unsure how much compensation, if any, they will receive under the Homebond insurance scheme.

At a meeting of creditors yesterday in Cork it emerged that builders' providers who supplied Croftpark Homes Ltd and three subsidiary but separate companies may stand to lose up to £800,000.

The companies collapsed earlier this month.

The buyers were not represented at yesterday's creditors' meeting and it remains to be seen whether payments by the Homebond insurance scheme will be sufficient to meet the cost of completing their homes at Ballintemple in Cork.

It is understood that houses already at roof level can recover up to 50 per cent of the completion cost. But the householders themselves will have to bring other houses up to roof level at their own expense before they can claim under the scheme.
