Gardaí investigating organised drug dealing in Meath are to involve the Criminal Assets Bureau (Cab) following a widening of the operation since the first in a series of linked drug finds at the weekend.

Last night two men remained in Garda custody following the discovery late on Tuesday of cocaine and money at a house in Navan, Co Meath. The search was part of a follow- up operation to weekend raids during which cocaine, nine firearms and a cocaine- processing plant were discovered near the village of Athboy, Co Meath. In Tuesday's search gardaí found 2kg of cocaine in an air vent in the bedroom of a house in Navan. Over €20,000 in cash was also found. Two men were arrested at the scene. They were taken to Kells Garda station where they were still being questioned last night.

This follows the arrests of three men on Saturday and a fourth on Sunday in Mooneystown just outside Athboy. Gardaí raided a garage in the area on Saturday afternoon. They found cocaine at the scene as well as a compressor for packing drug deals and some blenders. They believe the blenders were being used to mix bulking agent to the cocaine to increase its street value. A further search of the garage and a 40ft container close by yielded nine firearms. Gardaí believe at least some of them were stolen in recent robberies in the Meath area.
