A Labour county council candidate claims a local village has fallen off the map.
Mr Owen O'Shea said Milltown, on the main Killarney to Dingle road, was "practically invisible on the map" because of a lack of signposts to and from west Kerry.
He said many signposts were pointing in the wrong direction, and some areas, including golf courses, were not adequately signposted.
"A tourist coming from Dingle or west Kerry in search of Milltown would be forgiven for getting lost as there is no signpost for Milltown or Killorglin either on the approach to Castlemaine or in Castlemaine itself.
"In fact, there is no information at all on the signpost in Castlemaine village about where the road to Milltown leads. It would seem to be the road to nowhere at the moment.
"For a county that relies so much on tourism, our signposting is woeful," said Mr O'Shea.
He said the only signpost for Dingle in Milltown "is totally obscured" by another for Killorglin. The signposts for Dooks Golf Club, one of the finest clubs in the county, were pointing the wrong way.
He said there was no signposting for Killarney at all for those approaching Milltown from the Castlemaine side, there was no adequate signposting for Killarney in Milltown town centre, there was no signpost in Milltown for Castlemaine, and no signpost for Kerry Airport in Milltown, "making it extremely difficult for anyone coming from the Killorglin side to locate the airport".
Cork County Council is to carry out a review of its signage following complaints from local authority members.
Most of the complaints by tourists to Cork-Kerry tourist information offices were about lack of directional signs, Cllr Vivian O'Callaghan (FF) said.
