A Tourist body has called on Clare County Council and semi-state agency Shannon Development "to patch up their differences" over the Cliffs of Moher visitors centre.
The PRO for the Clare Tourist Council, Mr Joe Moloney, said yesterday after their annual general meeting that there was a definite need for visitor facilities at the cliffs to be expanded.
He said: "The overall view did not support suggestions that the huge numbers visiting the cliffs should be spread around the villages surrounding the cliffs. The conviction of the meeting was that spreading the visitor numbers around would only serve to create congestion in the villages and pose problems of parking and security.
"It was also the view of the meeting that the concept would also be a turn-off for visitors and be counter-productive by stifling return visits."
He said that in a 10-year strategy for county development from the Clare County Development Board, villages were being ignored.
