Call to regionalise pathologist's post

The call came from Mr David Norris, (Ind), who said the House had met recently in sad conclave to pay tribute to Mr Liam Naughten who had died in a road accident.

In this context, it should be noted that the Chief State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, was under considerable pressure and in the last few days he had been injured in an accident.

Mr Joe Sherlock (DL) suggested that there was a very able and eminent Assistant State Pathologist in Cork and perhaps the responsibilities of the office could be regionalised.

Mr Pat Magner (Lab) said he supported Mr Sherlock's call. It would make sense to divide the country geographically to allow for a more efficient service.
