Receivers for Cammell Laird, the English shipbuilders put into liquidation last week, said today 320 jobs are to go.
PricewaterhouseCoopers made the announcement at a meeting with union and employee representatives at Birkenhead this morning. The receivers said that following a review of the yard's order book job cuts were inevitable.
"Work at the Teesside yard is now virtually complete and no new work is available in the short term," PwC said in statement.
The decision taken by management prior to the appointment of receivers last week to close the yard will be implemented on Friday April 20th. The yard will be mothballed with essential maintenance works carried out by a staff of 40.
