The mother of a Briton being held at Camp X-Ray under suspicion of being a member of the Taliban yesterday lost a High Court action in London claiming that his human rights were being violated.
Ms Zumrati Juma, a Croydon nurse, wanted the court to force the British government to ensure the rights of her son, Mr Feroz Abassi, who is being held in the US prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, following his capture in December in Afghanistan.
But Justice Richards dismissed the application on the grounds that it lay outside the court's jurisdiction.
"The challenge seeks to involve this court in an area of international relations and foreign policy for which the judicial process is manifestly unsuited, " he said.
Ms Juma argued that her son had been wrongly denied the status of a prisoner of war and also that he had been wrongly interrogated by British security services and denied legal representation.
