The Health and Safety Authority has announced details of a £500,000 campaign to reduce workplace accidents and deaths. Celebrities from the world of sport, including the champion jockey Charlie Swan, the hurler D.J. Carey and the racing driver Sarah Kavanagh, have agreed to participate in the campaign, along with Den TV's Soky.

The Minister of State for Labour Affairs, Mr Tom Kitt, said that press, radio and outdoor advertising would promote the message that "Accidents don't happen by accident".

Later, Mr Kitt presented 12 newly-qualified building site safety representatives with their City and Guilds certificates and "safety rep" helmets at a ceremony in Croke Park.
