Gaelic Games:Fermanagh will not name a new manager until next week at the earliest amid speculation that former Tyrone star Peter Canavan is set to take his first steps in inter-county management with the Ernesiders.

A short statement from Fermanagh this afternoon confirmed that the interview process for the job as football manager will commence on Thursday evening, with a new manager expected to be ratified in the coming weeks.

Fermanagh had a terrible summer on the pitch, losing to Derry in the Ulster quarter-finals before being dumped out in the first round of qualifiers by London in Ruislip.

John O’Neill stepped aside at the end of summer, while a large number of seasoned players had already walked away during his term.

Canavan, 40, has cut his teeth in management with his home club Errigal Ciarán, winning successive league title in his three years leading the club.

Others thought to be in the running for the post are former Fermanagh manager Dominic Corrigan and former Derry manager Paddy Crozier, along with locals Peter Clarke and Darren Chapman.
