Patrols are to be deployed on Northern Ireland beaches this summer in a bid to combat skin cancer. The initiative, by the charity group Action Cancer, will operate at popular resorts such as Portrush, Portstewart and Newcastle at peak sunbathing times.
Mr Peter Quigley, executive director of Action Cancer, said it hoped to raise awareness of the dangers of sunbathing without proper protection. He said surnburn in childhood can increase the risk of skin cancer in later life and that parents should be particularly vigilant.
