Three men accused of growing up to €800,000 worth of cannabis plants have been remanded in custody until next month. The three, Gui Yu (24), Jin Ping Chen (26) and Zhen Jie Lin (24), all of no fixed abode, have been in prison since last week after they were charged with illegally cultivating the cannabis in Youghal, Co Cork.

They were arrested after gardaí discovered a cannabis-growing operation at Unit 3 of the Springfield Industrial Estate in Youghal on the night of March 12th last.

After being initially brought to court in Carrick-on-Suir last week, the three men were back in court in Cashel yesterday when gardaí applied for a further remand in custody. They were assisted by an interpreter throughout the hearing.

Judge Terence Finn ordered the men to be remanded in custody to appear again before Dungarvan District Court on April 4th next.
