The drugs were discovered in a truck that arrived from Holyhead this morning.

Two suspects - a 30-year-old man from Armagh and a man from England (30) -  were arrested at the scene and are being questioned at Store Street Garda station. They can be held for up to seven days under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

Revenue's customs officers and gardaí were involved in the operation.

The haul, which included 99kg of cannabis resin and 44kg of herbal cannabis - each worth an estimated €550,000 - was discovered during routine profiling.

A customs spokeswoman said a drug detection dog reacted when the truck was stopped.

The drugs had been concealed in bags marked for woodchip and large food tins, she said.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Gort, Co Galway, also seized cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €170,000. Two men in their 40s and a woman in her 30s were arrested and are being questioned at Gort and Loughrea Garda stations.
