Captain Shane Carey gave Irish riders a boost in advance of tomorrow's Aga Khan Trophy by winning the Power and Speed International Jumping Competition at the Dublin Horse Show at the RDS this afternoon.
Riding the gelding Killossery he had a time of 27.16seconds to beat Germany's Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst into second with a time of 28.81.
Irish riders Peter Smyth on Zara's Pride (29.33) and Trevor Coyle (30.18 ) on Over Time GMS finished third and fourth respectively to give the home crowds plenty to cheer about.
Ireland will take on Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands and the USA in the Aga Khan Trophy which is part of the Samsung Super League.
France hope to retain the trophy tomorrow by winning it for the third time in a row - a feat the French have not managed since the competition's inception in 1930.
