Captain Steve, trained by Bob Baffert in the U.S. and ridden by Jerry Bailey, romped to victory in the $6million Dubai World Cup today.
The colt, 7-4 joint favourite in London betting, took over from pace-setting Japanese raider To the Victory, partnered by Yutaka Take, in the final 70 metres and held on easily to win by three lengths.
It was the third victory in the World Cup for jockey Bailey, who was successful on Cigar in 1996 and Singspiel the following year.
Third place in Saturday's 12-strong field went to French challenger Hightori, the mount of Gerald Mosse, who was half a length behind the runner-up.
Earlier in the day Nimello had given trainer Paul Cole his third Lincoln victory when lifting the first big Flat race of the season at Doncaster.
