A 24-year-old Dublin man was sentenced to 10 years in jail yesterday after the Central Criminal Court in Dublin heard that he had opened fire after a car chase through the north city.

Paul Mahon (24), of Cromcastle Drive, Coolock, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and possession of a weapon on two dates in 1998.

The court heard he was out on bail at the time for aggravated burglary of a Maxol filling station in Artane earlier in 1998.

Mahon had been used as a lookout while two others held up the filling station and robbed a customer of her purse.

Judge Frank O'Donnell said Mahon had shown a total disregard for life. He said he would suspend the last four years of the sentence on condition that Mahon keep the peace for three years.
