A personal electronic medical card will eventually become as familiar as a credit card, according to the Minister for Health. Mr Noonan was speaking yesterday at the launch of Cardlink, a pilot scheme developed by the Eastern Health as part of an EU project to standardise medical records.
The EHB has selected Bray, Co Wicklow, as its pilot centre and plans to distribute 16,000 cards.
The card uses micro to store information. The immediate benefits, said the Minister would be in emergencies.
