Rugby:Despite agreeing a two-year deal with Ulster earlier this season, it appears Xavier Rush could be staying with Cardiff.
The Amlin Challenge Cup winners confirmed today they are in talks with the New Zealand international to keep the number eight at the Cardiff City Stadium next year.
Rush is believed to want to stay in Cardiff for personal reasons and coach Dai Young is hoping a compromise can be worked out with Ulster.
"He's in discussions with Ulster and us," Young told BBC Sport. "He did make a statement early doors but obviously it's up to him - we can't do anything about it."
"We would love for him to stay but it's up to him to make that decision. He's got to make that decision and hopefully he will stay with us. It's out of our hands pretty much."
Rush, who joined Cardiff in 2005, won eight All Black caps and captained Auckland Blues to the Super 12 title in 2003.
The 32-year-old had a hand in two of the Blues’ three tries as they came from 13-6 down to beat Toulon and become the first Welsh side to win a European title of any description.
But Young is not satisfied with success in Europe’s second-tier competition and, if available, Rush would be key to next season’s assault on the Heineken Cup.
“Europe is the great flagship for every team and while we all want to win the Heineken Cup, this is the next best thing,” said Young.
