Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos has told a the British press he will join Arsenal when his contract with Real Madrid expires.

The 29-year-old World Cup winner says he will move to London when his contract with the European champions ends in less than two years.

"I am ready to play in the English Premier League and know it will be suitable for me," he told the News of the World.

"When my contract finishes that is definitely my priority and at Arsenal there are fellow Brazilians."

"I think as a club they are like Real Madrid - they have a supreme confidence that looks utterly unbreakable," he said.

"When a team is like that, they are difficult to beat. They have a great squad, a fantastic coach and a balanced team.

"Everyone is relaxed and knows their position in the club and I know they can achieve unimaginable success. I have discussed this with Gilberto Silva and he has told me what to expect at Arsenal."

Carlos said he was attracted by the presence at the double winners of Brazilians Gilberto Silva and Edu.

The capture of the pacy left-back would represent a victory for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, who has tried unsuccessfully to lure the player to Old Trafford.
