Carlow's residents and businesses will have open access to a wireless internet (WiFi) connection in a pilot programme announced today.
The WiFi mesh network provides half the businesses and 10 per cent of residences in Carlow town with fast internet access on a subscription or pay-as-you-go basis.
The services, provided by Brisknet, Aptus and Bitbuzz, are set-up on the Carlow fibre optic Metropolitan Area Network (MAN).
An open access network enables anyone with a wireless computer, within wifi range, to go online. Usernames and passwords are only needed to pay the access fee.
