Lisbon - The President, Mr Jorge Sampaio, urged the Portuguese people yesterday to show the same courage in making social and political reforms as the armed forces did 25 years ago in toppling a rightwing dictatorship.
In a solemn ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the "Carnation" revolution, Mr Sampaio said Portugal had made giant strides since the road to democracy was opened.
But much needed to be done to counter growing disenchantment with politics - reflected in falling voter turnout - and to improve health and education services, he said.
