Tommy Carr's future as Cavan football manager remains in considerable doubt following last night’s meeting of the county board. A motion of no confidence was passed in the former Dublin boss but delegates requested more time to discuss the matter with their clubs.
Carr has been at the helm in Cavan for less than a year but has been under pressure in the wake of the county’s championship defeats by Antrim and Wicklow.
Following an underwhelming league campaign, Cavan started the Ulster championship with a promising win over Fermanagh but were dumped out by Antrim at the semi-final stage.
Any hopes of extending their summer were swiftly extinguished by Wicklow in the qualifiers, leading to calls for Carr’s head.
Nevertheless, Carr retains the support of his panel with Seanie Johnston publicly backing the manager and calling for him to be afforded more time.
“I think most of the players’ thoughts are that they want continuity and stability and they feel that only having four or five months in a job to change things is not enough” said Johnston.
“I personally would like Tom to stay on and the majority of the players would too. I have spoken to most of them. In a 30-man panel, you’re always going to have a couple with some problem, that’s just normal, but most of the lads would like Tom to stay on.”
