Vodafone Awards: Offaly hurler Brian Carroll and Wicklow footballer Leighton Glynn are the latest recipients of the Vodafone GAA All Stars Players of the Month awards for May.
Carroll joins a long list of previous Offaly winners but Glynn becomes part of a select group of Wicklow players - including current selector Kevin O'Brien and county panelist Tommy Gill - honoured in the scheme.
Carroll was chosen after his outstanding performance for Offaly against Laois in the opening round of the Leinster championship when he put on an exhibition of free taking en route to a personal tally of 16 points in the game.
The Coolderry clubman has become an integral part of manager Joe Dooley's plans as he rebuilds the Offaly team. Carroll was an All-Ireland Senior Colleges winner with St Kieran's of Kilkenny in 2001 and has won inter-provincial honours with Leinster. He is son to the late Pat Carroll, a dual All Star and All-Ireland winner in the 1980s.
Glynn picked up the football award for the role he played in Wicklow's historic win over neighbours Kildare in the Leinster championship. It was the first time the province had ever won a championship match at Croke Park.
The dual player with Wicklow, Glynn has also represented Leinster's footballers and was a member of the winning Tommy Murphy Cup team last year.
GAA President Nickey Brennan presented the awards to the two players and paid tribute to their efforts.
"Wicklow's win over Kildare was one of those great occasions that makes our championships so special and Leighton was a major force on that day," said Brennan. "Equally, Brian provided us with something very special when he played such a huge role in Offaly's opening win of the campaign."
