In a series of arson attacks on Arklow early yesterday morning, three cars were destroyed, a shed was badly damaged and a mobile home was reduced to ashes. The damage cost is expected to exceed €100,000.
Gardaí in the Co Wicklow town, who had only two members on duty, arrested two men and a woman.
ESB personnel had to be called in to disconnect the power in Stringers Lane, where one car had been set on fire, while many residents left their homes as a safety precaution.
At Marine Village, the scene of another burning car, firefighters had to use foam as petrol from the tank had spilled out on to the road.
