Racing:Casamento gave Irish trainer Mick Halford his first Group One success when taking the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster under Frankie Dettori.
Wearing Sheikh Mohammed's colours, Dettori took the lead two furlongs out on the 2-1 favourite, and kept on strongly to hold the Aidan O'Brien-trained Seville. O'Brien's other runner, Master Of Hounds, was third to complete a clean sweep for the Irish raiders.
Dettori said: "It was a great performance and I'm delighted for Sheikh Mohammed and Mick, which is his first Group One. I think he's probably a Derby horse, but we'll wait and see. He's a lovely horse."
Halford reported: "I personally think he might have enough speed for the Guineas, but he's not slow either and stays."
Dubawi Gold was quickly to the fore as the field assembled in the middle of the course - apart from Seville who was alone towards the stands side in the early stages.
Casamento, one of the three supplementary entries in the race, took closer order at halfway, and hit the front a quarter of a mile out. He had to be kept up to his work to win by three-quarters of a length from Seville, with Master Of Hounds another two lengths away third.
Halford continued: "He was idling a bit in front and looking for a bit of company. Frankie said he was always happy on him and kept finding every time a horse got near him. He's a big, relaxed horse and only does what he has to do."
Casamento is now set to join Godolphin, but that does not bother Halford. He added: "There was never any problem with that. It was always going to be the case and we were so lucky to get him. I'm so grateful to Sheikh Mohammed for sending me the horse in the first place."
O'Brien said of his duo: "They've both run crackers. Seville was on his own for a big part of the race and Master Of Hounds also ran a good race. The form ties in with the best two-year-olds in Ireland and I'd imagine they'd both progress well next year."
Sky Bet cut the winner to 8-1 for the 2000 Guineas and 10-1 for the Investec Derby and spokesman Matt Doyle said: "The Racing Post Trophy is traditionally a stronger trial for the Derby, but Casamento does not lack for speed and his Guineas claims can not be dismissed when he returns next year in the Godolphin livery."
