A Dublin man who got into drugs to fit in with school peers has had his sentence for possessing €658,000 of cannabis adjourned so he can attend a residential drug treatment programme

Judge Katherine Delahunt warned Mark Fitzpatrick (25) that completing the 20-week course did not mean he would escape jail time and added that if he left the treatment early, gardaí could re-arrest him and bring him back to court.

Fitzpatrick, of Griffith Road, Finglas, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing nearly 94kg of cannabis resin at Donaghmede Shopping Centre on April 7th, 2009.
