Two young Sligo men charged in connection with a violent attack on an American writer have had their case adjourned at Sligo District Court.

Mr Glen Mahon (21), Banks Drive, Cranmore, and Mr Ian Monaghan (20), Pearse Road, were charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious bodily harm to Mr Robert Drake (35) at Holborn Street, Sligo, on January 31st.

Mr Mahon was also charged with stealing a leather wallet containing an American passport, credit cards and £5 cash, the property of Mr Drake.

At the original hearing, both men had nothing to say.

Insp Michael Barrett told yesterday's hearing that the book of evidence had not been completed and requested a further adjournment.

The men's solicitor, Mr Eddie Henry, said that his clients were anxious for a conclusion.

Both men were remanded on continuing bail of £1,000 each and two independent bonds of £10,000 to appear again on June 17th.
