The case of a solicitor accused of assaulting a colleague in court has been adjourned until March, on foot of an order by the judge for a full disclosure of evidence. Legal aid solicitor John Devane (49), Quinlan Street, Limerick, is accused of assaulting fellow solicitor John Herbert, in May and June last year.

At Limerick District Court yesterday, Judge Timothy Lucey made an order placing a duty on the prosecution to disclose to the defence all relevant evidence it had. Mr Devane’s solicitor, John Shanley, said it was the defence’s belief the court’s digital recording system would have recorded a conversation between Mr Devane and Mr Herbert, which may be an important piece of evidence.
