Seán Casey bounced back from yesterday’s disappointment of missing the elite finals at the world championships in Poland to reach the lesser C/D final in the single scull class.
The Kerryman, who just missed out during yesterday’s repechage, was not to be denied on this occasion and progresses to Thursday’s final
India’s Bajrang Lai Takhar was the surprise early leader, but Mario Vekic of Croatia led by halfway and went on to win. Casey had made second place his own by 1200 metres and Takhar eventually lost third to Chile’s Oscar Vasquez Ochoa of Chile.
The three qualifiers will be joined in tomorrow’s C final (10.48 Irish time) by Sergii Gryn of Ukraine, Peter Lambert of South Africa and Maksim Shauchenka of Belarus, who came through the other semi-final in that order.
